Meet the Doctors of Lewisville Family Physicians Dr. Summer is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Leigh Summer is originally from Rock Hill, SC and her family moved to Greenville, NC before she began high school. She then attended NC State University, and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Yes, in case you were wondering, the Doctors Summer are married, first meeting in Medical School. They have 2 children, Sarah (1997) and Sam (2000).
Dr. Michael Summer is originally from Raleigh, and grew up in Cherryville, NC. He then attended NC State University, and graduated with degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
After a few years performing basic research, he then began Medical School at East Carolina University, graduating in 1995. After graduation, he spent the next 5 years in the United States Navy, fulfilling his military scholarship obligation. He served as the doctor on board the USS Frank Cable in Guam and Japan, and then as Senior Medical Officer at the Point Mugu Naval Air Station.
Dr. Summer finished his Residency in Family Medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, and then practiced in Lexington, NC, until May 2005 before founding Lewisville Family Physicians in June of 2005.
As a family physician, Dr. Summer has training and experience in a wide range of medical conditions affecting adults and children, along with Preventive Health for adults and children. Dr. Summer has special interest in Diabetes and other endocrine conditions, Cardiology, Sports Medicine, Asthma and allergic conditions, minor surgery, and adolescent health.
She also completed Medical School at East Carolina University School of Medicine in 1995. After graduation, she served in the United States Navy as a Medical Officer at the Naval Hospital on Guam in charge of a base medical clinic and then head of Occupational Medicine. She later practiced while in Southern California.
After her Navy obligations were fulfilled, she practiced in several locations, concentrating in Occupational Medicine, Primary Care and Womens Health. Most recently, she has spent the majority of her time as full-time mom.
She is also very happy to be back in North Carolina.
