Lewisville Family Physicians
Faxing prescriptions. We fax most prescriptions directly to your pharmacy. This has two advantages:
1. If you have a good pharmacy, they will get your medicine ready before you get there. If your pharmacy is of the other type, usually those with a 3-letter abbreviation, then you may need to ask them to check their fax machine. They may even tell you that we have not sent the prescription, when we can confirm it was received and they have just neglected to check. DO NOT let them send you away before they check their fax machine again. If they cannot find it, they should call us. Same-day Appointments. Unlike most practices, we always reserve space in each day's schedule if you need to be seen on the day you call, but please call as early as possible as the amount of time in a day is still limited. Refills Please ask your pharmacy to send us a refill request, and give us 24-48 hours to process it. We will usually get to it sooner, but give us a little time. If it is urgent, please call us first. We don't do refills after hours for any controlled medication. We do not fax refills to mail-order pharmacies. We do not have the resources available to fill out their numerous forms and handle multiple faxes. Our faxed forms to these pharmacies were often "lost" (although confirmed received), requiring multiple faxes, etc. I am also opposed to mail-order pharmacies on medical basis since you no longer have direct contact with your pharmacist. If your insurance forces you to use a mail-order pharmac, we will print your prescriptions for you, and you can mail them. That is how it is supposed to work, anyway. Physicals Please call to make an appointment. There are often lab tests that we can do ahead of time so the results will be ready when you come for your exam. If You Need to be Hospitalized: We have arranged for Inpatient Physicians of Forsyth to care for our patients that need to be treated in the hospital at Forsyth Medical Center. Dr. Summer communicates closely with these doctors who practice exclusively in the hospital. After-Hours Needs We have registered nurses who are available after office hours for medical advice. Just call the regular office number (945-2080) and you will automatically be connected to the nurse. They will contact me if you need to speak to me directly. Of course, if it is an emergency, please call 911. Payments: We ask that you have your required insurance co-pay ready to pay at the time of your visit. This is required by your insurance plan, consult your benefit information for proof. We will also ask that you pay the balance on your account if you have one. If you can't make it to your appointment. Please call as soon as you are aware to reschedule. We ask for 24 hour notice, unless in cases of an emergency. Repeated cancellations without sufficient notice will results in a fee and possibly dismissal from the practice. Messages: We will get back to you that day, usually pretty soon. Just remember we are also busy with folks here in the office. If it is urgent, please let the person you speak to know. New prescriptions: If you need, or want, a medication that you have not been prescribed in the past, you should make an appointment to discuss it. Please do not request a new medication be "called in" without an evaluation. This is not a safe way to practice medicine. Diagnosing problems and choosing suitable medication is my job, and I have spent a lot of time and effort learning to do it.
